Rising Stars: Moreno Valley’s Dual-Sport Sophomore
Phenoms Redefine Versatility

Moreno Valley, CA — In a time when specialization often rules high school athletics, two
sophomores from Moreno Valley High School stand out by doing more — and doing it at a high
level. Sophomores Amera Collins and Keilani Bufford, are not just dual-sport athletes, they
are pillars of their teams, combining skill, leadership, and grit in both flag football, softball, & basketball.

#9 Amera Collins: As a freshmen, Collins
ended her season with 126 tackles (#1 in California & 12th in the nation) and maintained a 3.8
GPA. This year Collins made over 180 tackles and currently has a 4.0 with aspirations to attend
a high major D1 school in her near future.

#6 Keilani Bufford: sports have become both an outlet and a proving ground. The sophomore
athlete, who balances girls flag football and basketball, has quickly risen as one of Moreno
Valley High School’s most dynamic competitors.
Bufford, the second-oldest in a family of 6 siblings — has always carried responsibility with
her. That natural sense of leadership translates onto the field, where she has stepped into the
role of quarterback, guiding the Vikings’ offense with confidence and composure.
Her journey back to football wasn’t linear: she briefly left the sport before finding her footing and
returning stronger, more focused, and with a deeper love for the game. One of her proudest
moments came when she threw her first touchdown pass to a senior teammate, a milestone
while she still plays multiple positions — corner, wide receiver, and quarterback — it’s her
quarterback leadership that has made her a standout this season. Coaches and teammates
praise her calmness under pressure, her athletic IQ, and the fire she brings when the lights are
bright. She holds a 3.5 GPA and ended her first season as the starting Quarterback leading her team into the CIF playoffs.
